Roy Gerard Dorsett serial number 2269571, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on  March 21, 1966, at a
Phoenix Recruiting Office. He served with 5th Force Recon company states side where he received his training including
scuba school and  jump school. He arrived in Vietnam February 10, 1968 and was assigned to the 1st Platoon of 1st
Force Reconnaissance Company,1st Reconnaissance Battalion,1st Marine Division at Phu Bai RVN.

Roy and I (David Thompson) both from 5th Force Recon in the states, shared our first patrol in Vietnam with 1st Force
Recon 6th Platoon  "Senator" under Lt. Daniel J. O'Donnell, from February 16th to the 20th. It was normal to go out on
a "break in"  patrol before joining your assigned team and after this patrol Roy was assigned to 1st platoon "Thinman"
later called "Spillway"  and I was assigned to the 5th platoon "Swift Scout".

As their team were landing at the landing zone at Phu Bai, our team were just walking to board our chopper for start of our
patrol. I veered off and ask who the body was . . and found out is was Roy . .  and then numbed continue to our chopper.

Roy died on June 29, 1968 as a result of fragmentation wounds to the head and body from an accidental detonation of a
friendly mine he was disarming after being in a night defensive postion,7 kilometers east southeast of Phu Loc.
