These photographs taken at 1st Force Recon Company in An Hoa in January-February 1969. The Marine doing the rappelling is PFC Glenn Griggs my radioman in 11th Platoon "Forefather". If you note the lump by PFC Glenn Grigg's dog tags [Photo 2a], that was his "good luck rock".  A couple patrols back, his first patrol the two us were left behind on a Jungle Penetrator extract - 2 man device (we had odd number that patrol) so the "new" chopper crewman, saw a single marine come up (the Team Leader is always the last to board and needs his radioman with him for comms) told the pilot that we were all on board. Will when they came back for us, the enemy "wised up" that we were there and opened up on Griggs and myself. The "good luck rock" was a chip off the rock beside us, from the rifle fire, that he picked up.  Sgt. D.B. Thompson, Patrol Leader 11th Platoon "Forefather"
